Deputy President William Ruto Differs with President Uhuru on Referendum

Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed calls for a referendum to introduce changes to the Constitution.
Ruto has described the push for amendments to the law as a daytime dream saying that Kenyans will reject plans to change the law to create positions for election losers.
"As a country, we cannot change the law to have Kabuchai constituency merge with Sirisia or have some wards merging so that we create a position for someone in Nairobi," said Ruto during the homecoming party of Sirisia Member of Parliament John Walukhe.
DP Ruto, who was accompanied by several Jubilee MPs, maintains that leaders should focus on serving Kenyans instead of engaging in the meaningless referendum debate.
"The issues of politics and election are way behind us. What we now want is total development for Wanjiku."
"They are saying that the MCA (Member of County Assembly) seat should be scrapped. Because an MCA takes care of the local people, the seat should be respected," Ruto adds.
Ruto's sentiments comes a week after President Kenyatta hinted at a referendum to amend the Constitution and do away with the current winner takes all system of government.
Kenyatta, who spoke in presence of Opposition leader Raila Odinga during a trip to Kisumu, said election losers must be accommodated in government to prevent the bitterness that has triggered post-election violence in the past.
“We said we must look at this issue of winner takes all. If that is why some people feel left out of government, we must ask ourselves, 'Is is a good thing or not',” Uhuru said.
"Raila and I agreed we look into solutions on how we can avoid the animosity witnessed after every electioneering period and end bad politics in Kenya," Kenyatta added.

All we have in Kenya are hungry reporters, always looking for way to make money, never to inform the public. A referendum would be Christmas to the reporters. How can we have a referendum without a proposal?
