US Embassy in Nairobi Now Accepting Payments through New Kenyan Currency

The United States Embassy in Nairobi says Kenyans seeking visa and other consulate services can now pay using new banknotes.

The Embassy had on Tuesday announced it was not accepting payments through the newly unveiled Kenyan currently due to lack of necessary systems.

“The Embassy of the United States is currently developing procedures to accept the new Kenyan shillings. Until these procedures are in place, consular applicants will only be able to pay for services using the previous Kenyan shillings,” the Embassy said in a statement.

In another statement on Tuesday evening, the American Embassy said it is now accepting payments through the new generation notes after the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) provided it with equipment upgrades and training.

"After coordination w/@CBKKenya, we have been provided with equipment upgrades & training necessary to accept the new Kenyan currency. We now accept the new currency as well as the legacy currency valid until Oct 1. You may also continue to pay for services by credit card," the Embassy said.

The new banknotes were launched by the CBK during Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1st.

I was wondering when that would last because US embassy is in the business of collecting free money without providing visas to Kenyans. This is pure exploitation and it is amazing that this ambassador talks of "caring" about Kenyans. Please refund money to poor Kenyans once you determine they are not worth stepping in US.

Kenyan's as you plan to move to the western nations research the weather in the state you plan to move to. Weather has deteriorated in some states. Research and do more research. Check availability of jobs. Most of the lower jobs that our people used to do as they go to school have been automated.
Do not sell what you have until you have gone and decided you will stay. Keep what you have until you know what is out there. Do research and talk to your relatives in those countries.
