Government to Roll Out Fresh Huduma Namba Registration Drive

The government has revealed plans to roll out a fresh Huduma Namba registration drive following Thursday’s court ruling that approved the implementation of the program.
In a ruling, a three-judge High Court bench validated the legitimacy of the National Identity Integrated Management Systems (NIIMS), popularly known as Huduma Namba.
The judgment followed a consolidated petition by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), the Nubian Rights Forum and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR). The petitioners were challenging the legality of the NIIMS.
Following the ruling, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has said they are preparing to launch the second phase of Huduma Namba registration, in which they expect to enlist every Kenyan.
“Upon the roll-out of this phase, the public will immensely benefit from the ease of service delivery and other advantages that come with a unique identification number,” said Kibicho as quoted by People Daily.
President Kenyatta launched the NIIMS mass registration exercise on April 2nd, 2019 and by the end of the 45-day exercise, the government announced it captured data of over 37 million Kenyans residing in the country and abroad. Foreigners living and working in the country were also registered.
“Registering for Huduma Namba will enable the government plan and offer services to you in a faster and more efficient manner and also allow for appropriate resource planning and allocation,” said Kibicho.

I still don't know what is 'Huduma Namba'. How is it any different, from acquiring an ID Card? In both cases, your fingerprints are taken, and stored in a National data base. Your fingerprints don't change, whether they are in the ID records, or in the Huduma Namba. Why spend money, to duplicate information that you already have?

What Huduma Number does is to consolidate all your records into 1 database. You ID, Passport, Birth Cert, death certs, Tax ID , Drivers license, Voter Registration etc etc - all government issued documents will be linked to that one number. It simplifies delivery of services.
Could they have linked all your documents to say your ID number? The simple answer is yes. The actual answer is probably more complicated.
