I’m Ready to Go Home, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Says over Looming Impeachment

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has reacted to the fresh plot by a section of MCAs to impeach him.

On Thursday, Kileleshwa Ward MCA Michael Ogada tabled a notice of motion for Sonko’s ouster in the County Assembly.

86 out of 122 Nairobi MCAs are said to have appended their signatures in support of the motion that lists abuse of office and gross violation of the constitution as some of the grounds for his removal.

The impeachment bid is linked to Sonko’s refusal to sign the 2020/2021 Appropriation Bill that allocated Sh27.1 billion out of the Sh37.5 billion budget to Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

Through Twitter on Saturday, Sonko insisted that he is not afraid of being hounded out of office, adding that he is ready to go home.

“I’m ready to go home as I said before there’s life after politics. My father was not a politician,” Sonko wrote.

Sonko maintained that he will not be intimidated into signing the Sh37.5 billion budget to give funds to NMS, which he termed as an illegal entity.

“I will stand firm like the Senate when they were dealing with the County Revenue Bill. I will not, I shall not and I’m not going to append my signature to give funds to an illegal entity,” he added.

NMS was formed in March this year to run six key Nairobi County functions surrendered to the national government by the Sonko administration.

The functions include county health services, transport, public works, utilities, and ancillary services, and county government planning and development.

I will be literally ashamed of Raila if he came to Sonko’s rescue! Raila cannot be the man to rescue thieves like Sonko, Waititu, Abado, etc whenever they get into political trouble for cleaning out our coffers!

Carry your own cross Mr Sonko! We are ready for you to go home but don’t take our stolen money with you.

Sonko is cut out below the BELT in coping up with managing a city the size of Nairobi! It is too much work for Sonko to get his hands around it.

He should allow general Badi to develop Nairobi so that people can benefit.

Governor Sonko is a very good and generous man! However, he has proved time and again he does not have the necessary kills to keep the city of Nairobi functioning as required! Kindly resign and let a capable person work for the people.

I hope you packed your junk before you went to the senate because they just impeached you! Head on to Mua Hills ex-governor! And say hello to the ex-governor Waititu on the way out! You two are just thieves!
