Three Killed After Boat Capsizes in Lake Victoria as Passenger Takes Selfie

Three people lost their lives after a boat they were riding in capsized in Lake Victoria.

The accident occurred at Arongo Beach in Seme, Kisumu County on Saturday evening.

The vessel is said to have lost balance and plunged into the waters as one of the occupants tried to take a selfie, according to reports.

Area Chief Shadrack Oluoch while confirming the incident said the victims of the accident were visitors from Nyandarua County and were taking a boat ride for the first time in their lives.

The three had reportedly traveled to the lakeside city to attend a colleague’s funeral before they decided to enjoy a boat ride.

Two other people are still missing while three were rescued and rushed to Manywanda Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the victims were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary. An operation to retrieve the bodies of the missing persons is underway.

” We are using fishing gear. The nets have been cast around the area where the boat capsized, which was approximately 200 meters from the shoreline,” said Oluoch.

IF those tiny unstable canoes are gonna be allowed to carry people, they should enforce life jackets.

Also, why can't we have fibreglass boats that are more durable, safer and adaptable for various uses?
