Ruto's Allies Accuse President Uhuru of Misusing Taxpayers Cash on BBI, Demand a Sh13.5 Billion Refund
A section of MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto have threatened to sue President Kenyatta for misusing public funds.
The MPs claim that the president spent taxpayers cash amounting to Sh13.5 billion on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process that was declared unconstitutional by the courts.
“Sh13.5 billion can transform this country. We are actually going to put up a case against the president to make sure that he repays back the money,” Aldai MP Cornelly Serem said on Sunday.
They argued that Kenyatta did not seek Parliament’s approval to spend public funds on the flopped constitutional review process.
“Our President never got authority from the parliament to spend the money and should therefore pay back our Sh13.5 billion he spent,” Tinderet MP Julius Melly stated.
The MPs spoke during a fundraiser at St. Paul’s Theological College in Kapsabet, Nandi County on Sunday.
On his part, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro said he will table a motion in the National Assembly to compel President Kenyatta to return the funds he used to promote BBI.
"The Court of Appeal judges confirmed BBI was a private affair. Since BBI started, it has been a series of theatrics," said Nyoro.
On Friday, the Appeals Court upheld a High Court verdict declaring the entire BBI process null and void.
