Six Killed in Ghastly Road Crash along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway

At least six people died in a grisly road crash along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Wednesday.

The head-on collision involving a North Rift shuttle and a lorry occurred near Greensteads International School a few minutes past 7:00pm. 

Confirming the incident, Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri said the matatu was heading towards Nakuru town while the truck was moving in the opposite direction.

Police could not immediately establish the exact number of occupants in the two ill-fated vehicles. 

“We have confirmed that five males and a female died on the spot during the accident and an unconfirmed number suffered serious injuries,” said Kiraguri.

The injured persons were rushed to various hospitals in Nakuru and Gilgil while the bodies of the deceased were transferred to Nakuru County Referral Hospital mortuary. 

The vehicles were towed to Nakuru Police Station as investigations to establish the cause of the crash continues.
