14-Year-Old Girl Abducted from Nyeri a Month Ago Rescued in Tanzania, Suspect Arrested

A 14-year-old girl who was reportedly kidnapped from her parents’ home in Nyeri on August 25th has been rescued from her captor.

The teenager was rescued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at Mto wa Mbu town in Tanzania on Sunday.

The prime suspect Alex Jonathan Malel, 19, was arrested during the rescue mission conducted by DCI’s elite Special Service Unit in collaboration with Tanzania’s regional crime office based in Arusha.

Malel, who worked as a night guard at an establishment near the girl’s home, was cornered at 2:00 am within the Engarika area and the Class Eight girl rescued.

The school-going girl was on her midterm break when she was abducted after stepping out of their house to answer a call of nature at night. Her parents woke up in the morning and found their daughter missing.

They reported her disappearance at Gatitu police post but the matter was handed over to DCI headquarters for action.

The minor reunited with her distraught kin who have known no peace since her disappearance.

The suspect is being held at Mto wa Mbu police station in Arusha, Tanzania, and is set to face rape charges.
