Kalonzo: How I Helped President Uhuru Become Deputy Prime Minister

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has disclosed the role he played in the appointment of President Kenyatta as deputy prime minister in the grand coalition government.

Speaking on Thursday, Musyoka said he convinced retired president Mwai Kibaki to appoint Kenyatta to the position following the formation of the government of national unity in 2008.

“I will tell you some truth which I’m saying for the first time publicly. It was me who convinced Mzee Kibaki to appoint President Uhuru the Deputy Prime Minister,” Kalonzo said.

He explained that Kibaki was reluctant to appoint another member of the Kikuyu community to a high office due to the political tensions at the time.

“Because Mzee Kibaki was a nationalist, he told me Vice President, you want me to appoint another Kikuyu?” Kalonzo recalled.

“Because you remember the Kofi Anna Talks when Raila appointed Mudavadi…and then I was in PNU alliance with Kibaki. I told him, yes! And Uhuru became the deputy prime minister and the minister for trade, and eventually, the Minister for Finance,” Kalonzo added.

Musyoka, who is eyeing the presidency in 2022, lightly claimed that through his input, Uhuru was able to build the muscle to run for president in 2013.

“I think he owes me one, just a light touch,” Kalonzo said.

He spoke at Safari Park Hotel, where One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals met with a section of leaders from Central Kenya under the Mt Kenya Foundation umbrella. OKA principals include Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Gideon Moi of Kanu, and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula.

Kalonzo, Mudavadi, Raila, William Ruto, Gideon Moi should not be running for presidency.

Kenya needs brand new politicians who nobody “owes”.

You need a payback?? Kalonzo, if you lack content, please retire peacefully or just compose yourself and explain to Kenyans what you’ll do for them not what you did for one individual. You were right Mr. Kalonzo. Leadership should be based on merit not which tribe one come from. Qualified Kikuyu people have for a long time been demonize and denied opportunities just because they are Kikuyu's and the President is a Kikuyu. Being a Kikuyu, a Luo, Kalenjin or any other tribe not a personal choice and therefore should never be looked at when making promotion decisions. Only three people in Kenya's history have President's of Kenya yet the the entire population of over twenty Million Kikuyu's WorldWide are on daily basis reminded of that fact. Will it be fair for the next President of Kenya, Raila Odinga, who is a luo to be condemned if he appointed a qualified deputy Prime Minister that is a Luo? Kenyans should stop thinking along tribe lines!!!

I will repeat what I have said over and over again.
REVOLUTION IS KEY.
ERADICATING CORRUPTION, MEANS CUTTING THE HEAD OF THE SNAKE. IT WILL BE PAINFUL,BUT SOMETIMES TO HEAL,WE HAVE TO OPEN UP THE WOUND AND DRAIN ALL THE PUS OUT,OR SIMPLY REMOVING THE ROTTEN PART.
IT'S TIME KENYANS PREPARE FOR THIS PAINFUL JOURNEY.

Tribalism is detrimental to unity in any country. Does one need to be constantly reminded of their tribe? The honorable dude should be talking infrastructure development and such issues of importance. This seems like a very shallow minded character. But the common ignorant folks will vote by tribal affiliation.

What is kalonzo smoking!? He is getting to be like DP Ruto who claims to make Raila the prime minister, and Uhuru the president! But Ruto can’t help to make himself to stop corruption and stealing Mashamba! Always getting some credit for things both of them ( Ruto and kalonzo) never did!

Kalonzo no one will vote for you! Being a young lady looking for a job, I remember risking my life to go to your motorcade to beg for a job and only for you to tell me ati nienda uko state house Mombasa. This is when you went to Mombasa show! Sijasahau! Malipo ni hapa hapa... you treated people below you like nothing!

I have never felt that kalonzo could become president both Deep in my mind and my spirit! I good guy though but too self centered! He does not have a vision for Kenya; except what benefits him!
