Starehe MP Charles Kanyi Njagua, alias Jaguar, has announced he will defend his seat as an independent candidate.
This is after he failed to secure a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, which was handed to East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Simon Mbugua.
Mbugua received the ticket after the Deputy President William Ruto-led party conducted an opinion poll in Starehe constituency after the National Elections Board (NEB) canceled last week’s nomination exercise due to violence.
Jaguar protested the awarding of the ticket to Mbugua, saying that the people of Starehe were denied a chance to choose their leader.
“I want to tell Deputy President William Ruto that I will not accept the EALA nomination they have promised me. Give that position to the wife of Mbugua. I do not want to go to Arusha,” a bitter Jaguar said during a rally in Starehe.
The musician-cum-politician described Mbugua as a corrupt individual, who cannot be trusted with the constituency’s leadership.
“Let us unite and work together because we have a common enemy,” he added.
Jaguar was elected on a Jubilee ticket in 2017, garnering 52,132 votes ahead of ODM candidate Steve Mbogo (32,357) and prominent activist Boniface Mwangi (13,413).

At least he took it like a man unlike his friend Baha’i. He will still lose though…..
MP Njagua aligned himself with the UDAku thieves but hey showed him the door because he is a junior thief. He is not claiming foul while he messed up himself in the first place. Prepare to head on home come August 2022 boy.
