Magoha’s Body Airlifted to Siaya in a Military Chopper

The body of former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has been airlifted by a military helicopter to his home in Gem, Siaya County ahead of burial on Saturday.

The chopper touched the ground at Township Primary on Friday afternoon and it was received by hundreds of mourners.

Magoha’s burial will be preceded by a funeral mass at Odera Akang’o University College.

A requiem mass for Magoha was held on Thursday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi, where family and friends paid glowing tributes to the deceased.

The 71-year-old collapsed at his home in Karen and was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital where he later died from a cardiac arrest after efforts to resuscitate him were futile.

Magoha, a renowned surgeon and scholar, served as the cabinet secretary for education from 2019 to 2022. Prior to joining the cabinet, he was the chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council from 2016 to 2019.

His long career in education included teaching at the University of Nairobi’s Medical School. Trained in Nigeria, Ghana, Ireland, and the UK, Magoha rose through the ranks from an assistant lecturer at the university to a professor and vice-chancellor.
