DCI Summons Matiang’i for Questioning Over Alleged Home Raid

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a fresh summon to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Matiang’i is required to report to the DCI headquarters at Mazingira House no later than 9.30 am on Tuesday, according to the summon issued by the Superintendent of Police Michael K. Sang.

The summon is in connection with an investigation into the publication of false information about an alleged of his Karen home by "battalion" of police officers on the night of February 2nd.

"I have reasons to believe that you are connected or have information that can assist me in my investigations," the summon served to Matiangi's lawyer Danstan Omari reads.

Sang warned that the former cabinet secretary will face legal action if he fails to honor the summon.

“Failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offense liable to prosecution,” Sang added.

Matiang'i returned to the country over the weekend after a two-week trip to the United Kingdom. He is reported to have landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 10:00 pm on Saturday night aboard KLM Flight 0566.

He left the country on February 19th amid a probe against him by the DCI and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which is looking into his wealth accrued during his 10-year tenure as a cabinet secretary.

His lawyer Omari dismissed reports that his client fled the country to avoid arrest, saying he traveled to the UK to attend to an urgent private family matter, in a private capacity.
