Turning to diaspora news, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs wants to harness the expertise, investments and trade networks of Kenyans living in the Caribbean to support development back home. The push follows a meet-and-greet at the residence of Kenya's High Commissioner to Cuba, Ambassador Mwenda Karis, which brought together Kenyans living and working in Jamaica. Irene Karari, representing Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu, said Kenyans abroad remain central to driving economic growth. Officials want to channel diaspora resources beyond remittances into business networks and direct investment.

Also from the diaspora, a Kenyan family in Australia is searching for a relative missing in Liverpool, New South Wales. Baruch Kipkemboi, also known as Faruk, was last seen on Wednesday, the twenty-first of October, after showing signs of anxiety. His cousin Leny has circulated a missing-person alert asking Kenyans across Australia to widen the search. Kipkemboi is described as friendly and approachable, but should be approached calmly. His cousin can be reached on zero four one five, nine seven nine, six one four.

Turning to immigration news, Canada has opened new permanent residency pathways for foreign-trained medical doctors. Up to five thousand federal slots are reserved for doctors under the Provincial Nominee Programme. A dedicated Express Entry category covers physicians with at least one year of Canadian work experience in the past three years. Provincial nominees will get work permits within fourteen days. Those without Canadian experience need a job offer or provincial support. Clearance does not grant the right to practise. A provincial medical licence is still required.

In Kenya now, the National Transport and Safety Authority and police have launched a night-time crackdown called Operation Msimu Bila Ajali, Usalama Barabarani. The hours between seven and ten pm account for nearly thirty per cent of national crashes. Officers are checking that speed limiters work and feed live tracking data to the national digital road safety platform. Long-distance public service vehicles must present passenger manifests, driver logs, road service licences and inspection stickers. Drivers face breathalyser tests, and passengers must wear seatbelts throughout the journey.

Staying in Kenya, President William Ruto has offered Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka a political olive branch, warning that the opposition plans to put him through another humiliating vetting. Speaking at a rally in Tseikuru, Kitui County, Ruto said Kalonzo has no guarantee of the opposition's presidential ticket for twenty twenty-seven, and urged him to join the ruling administration instead. Separately, Kalonzo led a delegation to Rigathi Gachagua's Wamunyoro home in Nyeri, part of consultations on the choice of an opposition flag bearer to challenge Kenya Kwanza.

Still on Kenyan politics, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has cautioned first-time members of parliament against challenging President William Ruto, the Daily Nation has reported. The paper says the message was aimed at discouraging newly elected legislators from taking on the President, and set out his expectations of first-term members. The warning comes amid high-profile political tension between the Speaker and the head of state. Wetang'ula has led the National Assembly since members elected him after the August twenty twenty-two polls.

Also in Kenya, former President Uhuru Kenyatta has turned sixty-five, celebrating with a quiet family gathering at his rural retreat. In a vernacular radio interview broadcast in Kikuyu, Uhuru said he long ago forgave Mt Kenya voters for defying him in twenty twenty-two, when he endorsed Raila Odinga but the region overwhelmingly backed William Ruto, delivering roughly three and a half million of his seven point one million votes. Looking ahead to twenty twenty-seven, the former president cautioned the region against repeating past voting errors.

Staying with Kenya, police have rescued fifty-nine Ethiopian nationals, among them a four-year-old child, in a multi-agency operation against suspected human smuggling in Marsabit County, on the northern frontier with Ethiopia. Broadcaster Capital FM Kenya reported the rescue today. Police framed the action as a strike against suspected smugglers rather than those being moved, and all fifty-nine were recorded as rescued, with no indication any faced arrest. The county lies on a corridor long used by people moving south from the Horn of Africa.

In health news from Kenya, the country could be declared free of Ebola within three weeks if no new community cases are recorded, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said. Kenya is twenty-one days into the outbreak that began on the second of October. All nine confirmed cases, including two deaths, were linked to the initial imported case, with zero community transmission. Authorities tested five hundred and fifty-one suspected cases over the last forty-eight hours, all negative. Uganda has completed follow-up of sixty contacts of the traveller.

Returning to opposition politics, the Wiper Patriotic Front has rejected claims by the Democracy for the Citizens Party that Kalonzo Musyoka is being persuaded to step down and deputise Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala told an event in Kakamega County the party had settled on Sifuna as its flag bearer against President Ruto, and said officials would ask Kalonzo to be running mate. Wiper spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru dismissed the remarks as political theatrics, calling Malala a playwright rather than a serious actor.

In Kenya's transport sector, the government plans to turn the four hundred and sixty one kilometre Nairobi to Mombasa highway into a tolled dual carriageway through a public-private partnership. The Draft twenty twenty-seven Budget Policy Statement shifts both that expressway and the Mau Summit to Eldoret to Malaba highway to private financing. This follows rejection of Everstrong Capital's four hundred and sixty eight billion shilling expressway proposal in twenty twenty-five. The revised plan upgrades the two-lane A8 into an access-controlled road with at least four lanes.

From Nairobi, the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to probe the collapse of a multi-storey building in Eastleigh. The prosecution authority says Nairobi County never submitted an inquiry file over alleged irregularities at the site. The October twenty-third disaster left several people injured. By Sunday, government updates showed forty-seven people reported missing, nine traced back to their families. Governor Johnson Sakaja had earlier written to the ODPP over difficulties enforcing county laws after special county prosecutors were de-gazetted in twenty twenty-four.
