Ruto Defends US Envoy Meg Whitman Over Raila's Onslaught

President William Ruto has come to the defence of US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman after Azimio Leader Raila Odinga criticized her comments about Kenya's 2022 General Election.

During the 8th Devolution Conference in Uasin Gishu County, Odinga criticized Whitman for interfering in Kenya's affairs, saying that the country is not a colony of the United States. Speaking today, President Ruto termed Odinga's remarks as "reckless" and urged politicians to show decorum and respect while addressing guests. Additionally, the Head of State emphasised the importance of nurturing positive ties with other nations such as the US and Germany, who have made significant investments in Kenya.

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua defended the envoy and urged her to dismiss the threats. Mutua reminded Azimio leader Raila Odinga that only the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has the power to order a recall of an envoy. He welcomed the envoy's positive comments about Kenya's potential and trajectory and said she does not require any retribution.

Earlier, leaders from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio exchanged words over the ambassador's remark, with Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah both speaking out in support of the envoy and urging Raila to stop threatening her. Azimio senators have blasted the ambassador for interfering in internal affairs and ignoring the state of the nation. Among them were Moses Kajwang from Homa Bay, Enoch Wambua from Kitui, and Oboru Odinga from Siaya who addressed the media in Eldoret.

Meanwhile, Senator Chris Coons of the United States met with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, on Friday morning. The President tweeted that the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen diplomatic relations between Kenya and the US. He added that the Senator considers Kenya "one of the most robust democracies worldwide."

Democracy? My foot! Democracy while you act contrary to the constitution? Democracy when you invade people’s homes and shoot dead their children? Democracy while you give all government jobs to one tribe? Democracy while you allow thieves to lead all important sectors of the government? Democracy while you allow your DP to divide Kenya into a Company and Not-company…democracy when you stole the election and denied Kenya its choice. Shame on you! Talk of a dictatorship!

In other words Ruto is urging UDA to continue kissing a** of Whitman(ruto is deep in it) while Azimio counterparts are not buying this.
