DP Gachagua Leads Dowry Negotiations in Mathira MP's Wedding to Muranga Woman Rep

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was the lead negotiator at the traditional wedding between Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi and Muranga Woman Representative Betty Maina.
The wedding took place on Saturday at Maina's rural home in Muranga County. Wamumbi is Gachagua's successor in Parliament and represents his home constituency. As part of the customary wedding rituals, known as ruracio, the Deputy President donned a traditional brown shirt embellished with delicate white shells. This attire was also sported by fellow male MPs who came to show their support during the negotiations.
Colourful African print dresses adorned the female legislators in attendance. Politicians from various political parties graced the wedding including Babu Owino, Oscar Sudi, Karen Nyamu, and Phelix Odiwuor (infamously known as Jalang'o). Other leaders present included Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro. All the leaders present recognized the importance of the event, as it symbolised a groundbreaking moment in contemporary politics where two sitting MPs are united in marriage.
In other news, Mohammed Barre, the County Commissioner of Nyandarua, on Saturday encouraged the church to switch from wine to juice for the Holy Communion. Speaking to a gathering of religious leaders from the county, Barre revealed that the wine traditionally used during the Holy Communion service often led congregants to crave alcoholic beverages. According to him, choosing juice over alcohol could curb cravings, leading to a decline in the surging number of alcoholics.

Women are [not] cows, sheep or goats to be sold for 🐄 🐑 🐐 💰 or any other form of bartering!!! It’s completely backwards and an insult to women and girls everywhere!!! I don’t believe in that crap! Love is between the two! My only involvement with my daughters finding longtime love is to approve of such relationships, help pay for their wedding if they are broke and need one, and give them a foundation and advice to start their marriage lives!!!
No, I am not selling my daughters!!!

@ Juju spot on!This buying of women has subjected agood number of untold to untold suffering.I have yet to hear any convincing justification for this commercial practice.
First of all,to me this looks like bride price, not dowry. Is n't dowry when the bride sends goodies to the groom? Nonetheless both are outdated traditions,or should be.
Obviously recipients of cows, donkeys, and goats are not going to discourage this practice. They are the beneficiaries.
To tell the truth, I am even shocked that there is no outcry from women to abolish this practice, since they bear the brunt of the suffering.
For those who argue that it is not a business transaction, could you tell me why its called"bride price" and why we have cases where it is returned? One is not obligated to return agift.
Even the practice of giving presents to the newly wedded should be discouraged.A big party should replace it.That's enough.

No one would ever think you got grown daughters based on a lot crap you write here! You should restrain yourself for the sake of them; or maybe even hey are more grown ups than yourself! I am now surprised you are condemning what you have always stood for.
