The government has announced a new online training program that aims to empower young individuals with digital skills, allowing them to access opportunities in the online job market.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has initiated the 'FINYA Computer Free Online Training Programme.' in response to President William Ruto's recent call for young people to leverage technology for their livelihoods. This program aims to equip young individuals with the essential knowledge and skills required to thrive in the digital economy. It encompasses a range of modules tailored to various skill levels and interests. Led by the Ministry, the initiative seeks to empower youth with the capabilities necessary to succeed in today's digital landscape.
The program will incorporate fundamental modules like Data Entry, Digital Marketing, and Virtual Assistance to equip participants with essential skills for online employment. Moreover, an Advanced Module concentrating on Graphic Design will be provided for individuals aiming to refine their proficiency in this specialized area. Scheduled from March 4th to March 8th, 2024, this event presents participants with the chance to engage in dynamic sessions and hands-on activities led by experienced instructors, enriching their learning experience.
At a recent church service in Kakamega, President William Ruto announced his support for a fresh strategy concerning the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), aimed at establishing ICT hubs in every ward. He passionately articulated his vision for ensuring that each ward gains access to a digital hub. President Ruto confirmed his endorsement of the new legislation for the CDF, elucidating that Members of Parliament would supervise the construction of these hubs, while he would be responsible for providing the computers. Additionally, he disclosed plans to deliver 15,000 computers to Kakamega.
The government is set to generate digital opportunities for one million young individuals across different wards and counties. President Ruto has highlighted specific locations like Khiswero, Kivaywa, Busiangala, Shamerere, and Lukuyani, where computers will be supplied to TVET institutions. The Head of State has reiterated the burgeoning digital job market in the country and even cited the example of a youth in Khiswero who earns $800 through digital employment.
