The Kenyan State House has firmly dispelled reports suggesting a rift between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed has addressed the speculation during a media briefing on Ruto's forthcoming trip to the United States. He states that there is no issue between the two leaders, underscoring that the Deputy President's office possesses all necessary capabilities and competencies. Mohammed clarifies that inquiries concerning Gachagua should be directed to his office.
The rumours of strained relations have stemmed from Gachagua's alleged absence from several key state functions. However, he recently resurfaced in public during a church service in Nyeri during which his whereabouts raised eyebrows, particularly after missing 11 state functions. Notably, Gachagua's absence was obvious during President Ruto's reception of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on a state visit. Despite the speculation, leaders present at the church service vowed not to allow any discord between Ruto and Gachagua.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga expressed the resolve of the Mt Kenya leadership and stated their determination to prevent any such rift. He highlighted that despite facing humiliation and disrespect during the previous administration, Ruto stood by the Mt Kenya community. Senator Wahome Wamatinga echoed this sentiment asserting that deliberate efforts are being made to create a wedge between the President and his deputy. He emphasized that they will not allow anyone to sow discord between the two leaders given the recent elections.
This is not the first instance of such rumours circulating. Last year, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura dismissed similar reports as media creations and emphasised that Ruto and Gachagua were aligned in their objectives.
I hope these two thugs fall out reaches the breaking point very soon. It is about time so we can arrest both of them and lock them up for destroying our beautiful country. Is the KDF closely monitoring the uchenzi and corruption the two meat heads are carrying out against Kenyans? It is time for a well deserved change and Ruto must go.
