The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced the results of the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which took place between October 28 and November 1.
This year, a total of 1,303,913 Grade 6 students from 35,573 centres nationwide participated in the assessments, marking a pivotal moment in their educational transition under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). To retrieve the KPSEA results, parents and students are advised to visit the KNEC's official website and access the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.
Users will need to log in with their usernames and passwords. In the event of a forgotten password, instructions are provided on the site to facilitate a password reset. After logging in, students must select their grade and enter a valid Assessment Number to view their individual results, which can subsequently be downloaded for records.
The KPSEA serves as a key transitional evaluation, designed to assess students' comprehension and practical application of skills acquired during their primary education. Following this year's results, all candidates are set to transition to Grade 7, with instruction to continue at their respective primary schools.
This advancement represents a critical step within the CBC framework, aimed at superseding the traditional 8-4-4 education system. The KPSEA encompasses a comprehensive range of subjects, including Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Kiswahili, Creative Arts, and Social Studies. Notably, performance ranking is no longer a practice; instead, KPSEA scores will contribute 20 percent to students’ overall assessment.
This score will be merged with a 20 percent allocation from school-based evaluations conducted in Grade 7 and a summative evaluation, which constitutes 60 percent, to be administered at the conclusion of Grade 9. Looking ahead, students will complete the final stage of Junior School by advancing to Grade 9, before transitioning to Senior School in 2026.
This progression will afford learners the opportunity to select career pathways thus facilitating alignment between their education and future aspirations.
