In Murang'a County, the family of Lucy Wamaitha, 32, faces the harrowing uncertainty of her disappearance, which has remained unresolved since January 16.
Lucy's mother, Nancy Mungai, recounts the troubling events preceding her daughter's vanishing, revealing a narrative steeped in anxiety and concern.
Employed by a local non-governmental organization (NGO), Lucy travelled to Embu with a superior to fulfil work-related tasks. Throughout this period, Nancy maintained regular contact with Lucy's employer for updates on their activities. After completing their errands, Lucy and her superior reportedly stopped at a hotel.
The last communication Nancy had from Lucy occurred around 7 PM that evening, followed by the last known contact from her employer two hours later. The circumstances surrounding Lucy's disappearance remain unclear, but Nancy Mungai has noted her daughter's awareness of potential misconduct within her workplace as a possible motive. Lucy had previously expressed concern over strained relations with her superiors, hinting at their involvement in financial irregularities within the organization.
In pursuit of answers, Nancy has taken the step of reporting the incident to three different police stations and widely sharing her daughter's photo through social media, appealing for public assistance. Local law enforcement is responding to the situation with urgency. Thika West Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi confirmed that investigations are underway, and two individuals have been questioned in connection with the case.
"We have the report at our station here in Thika, and investigations are already underway," Muchangi stated.
Notably, Lucy's case parallels that of Lilian Nyambura Mbugua, a brand manager who disappeared from her home in Gikono, Kabati, just two days before Christmas. These incidents highlight a troubling trend of unexplained disappearances in the region, prompting a critical reassessment of safety concerns in local communities.
