A Kenyan runner is nursing injuries after he was hit by a car during a marathon race in Colombia on Sunday.
Reports indicate that Joseph Kiprono, a previous champion of Colombia half-marathon was leading the 21km race when the vehicle knocked him down.
The race had been organized in Colombian's second City Medellin. Authorities said the owner of the car had "violated a road closure."
He was immediately attended to by paramedics on the spot before being rushed to the hospital with cuts and bruises. Doctors said he was in good condition.
Douglas Nyongesa, a Kenyan missionary Student in Colombia confirmed the incident. "It's true, it's all over the local news channels here. We are aware another athlete 38 year old also collapsed and was later confirmed dead by medics, "he told The Star.
During the same race, another competitor collapsed and died, the organizers said. The 38-year-old allegedly developed heart complications and was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.
Was this a plot to stop him? Perhaps.
