Kenya retained the overall title in the World Athletics Under-20 Championships held at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
As the event came to a close on Sunday, Kenya bagged eight medals including three gold, one silver, and four bronze to finish at the top of the medal standings.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800m), Purity Chepkirui (1500m), and Amos Serem (3000m steeplechase) bagged gold medals while Zena Cheptoo (5000m) took home silver.
Noah Kibet (800m), Winnie Chemutai (1500m), and Simon Koech scooped bronze medals while the quartet of Joshua Wanyonyi, Elkanah Kiprotich, Kennedy Kimeu, and Peter Kithome bagged a bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay.
Cumulatively, the country won 17 medals (eight gold, two silver, and seven bronze), thereby surpassing her tally of 11 medals from the 2018 championships held in Tampere, Finland.
The 19th edition of the World Under-20 Championships will be held in Cali, Colombia next year.

Reading this report, Kenya was the only country in this competition.
I dissapoint you,I traveled with teams from Italy, Jamaica, Honduras, Panama plus others on the Saturday KLM flight from Amsterdam. Wondering what was going on in kenya .
This confirms that other countries participated.
How come the reporter only provided metal count for Kenya? He/She could not even recognize no. 2 and 3!
Good performance by the host country, Kenya. I wish the article could have mentioned how the other countries performed as well in the medal tally as well for comparison purposes. Equally impressive we’re the Namibian ladies Mboma and Masilingi who never gave up after being blocked from the middle distance races. Ethiopians did a commendable job as well and not forgetting Jamaica.
@ Jasiri, unfortunately, media, and journalism are not as objective as you might think. When possible, they try to shine,or embellish abit, especially on matters of less harm, and favor their audience.
Local media all over the world favors their sports men,and women. Even in USA, their media pays particular attention to their athletes, and less to others. That is unless they are the Usain bolts of the world. If Kipchoge Eliud were an American, a statue would have already been built for the GOAT.Not to mention sponsors would be lining up ,and commercials galore.
I would hardly call 400 meters middle distance...Yes they were blocked from their favorite races. @ Jasiri, as you know, our own Margaret Wamboi ,and Semenya were blocked from Tokyo Olympics for same reasons. Its atough one I tell you. Are they men or women,is the question? As simple as it may appear to the laymen,my understanding is that, someone's sex is hard to determine. Take example of some men who have an extra x chromosome making them XXY instead of the common XY
These so called intersex are apparently" male" in the inside. They have testis inside and that's why they produce more testosterone hormones .It gets more complecated when they say not all intersex react same way to these hormones, thus not all gain advantage. Its complicated as you can see. They have to separate sports in to male, and female sports as you know. But how do they tell who is male, and who is female...
They call it DSD(Disorder of Sexual Development). Some female athletes tend to have higher levels of naturally occurring testosterone in their bodies. But enough research needs to be done to see to if any and to what extent it affects athletic performance from 400m to 1500m. Mboma ran well in 200 m but Semenya did not. How is that? Most female athletes have smaller breasts and suffer from amenorrhea ( low menstruation). I would not be surprised if they ended up with higher levels of testosterone than ordinary women.
Congratulations team Kenya.Once again you have done us proud. We are slowly catching the world in short races. Its just amatter of time.Thinks will only get better with involvement for the government ,and other interested parties. And I dont mean those waiting to "buy" our athletes.
Watching 3000Meters SC,in both boys, and girls, I believe Kenyans dominance is back on track. We also need to look into why we did not have any female representative in 800meters. We need someone to step up and follow the foots steps of Janeth Jepkosgei, and Pamela Jelimo.
All in all, keep up the good work.Keep shining Kenya on the globe. We are proud of you.
