Police in Kakamega are investigating the brutal murder of popular Kenyan football fan Isaac Juma.
Juma was hacked to death by a machete-wielding gang at his home in Ebuyenje village in Mumias on Wednesday night.
The assailants are said to have raided his home just after the family finished taking their evening meal around 9:00 pm. His 17-year-old son escaped death by a whisker after escaping to a nearby farm. Juma’s body was moved to Butere mortuary.
His killing has been linked to the ongoing land disputes amongst his extended family, according to his sister Caroline Auma.
A 27-year-old suspect identified as Milton Namatsi has since been arrested after preliminary investigations linked him to the murder.
Juma, 56, was an ardent supporter of the national football team Harambee Stars and Kenya Premier League sides AFC Leopards.
The deceased was ever present at Harambee Stars matches and in domestic league fixtures featuring AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz. He stood out at stadiums for his tireless dancing, flag waving and the themed color combinations painted on his body.
Juma, who was a newspaper vendor in Nakuru before retiring to his farm in Mumias, leaves behind two wives and 10 children.
