Kenyan tennis sensation Angela Okutoyi has joined Auburn University in the United States to study and advance her tennis career.

Okutoyi, 18, made the announcement through social media on Monday, saying she is excited to join the Alabama-based higher learning institution to advance her education and career.

“Super excited to announce that I will be continuing my tennis career and education at Auburn University! Thanks to my family, coaches, friends, and everyone who helped me along the way! #wareagle,” she wrote.

Auburn University is a public land-grant research university in Auburn, Alabama. It is the second-largest university in Alabama and one of the state's two public flagship universities.

Last month, Tennis Kenya Secretary General Wanjiru Karani said Okutoyi had received more than 30 scholarship offers from various American colleges. Karani said the institutions expressed interest in funding the teen’s education while allowing her to advance her tennis career.

Okutoyi participated in US Open last month alongside her partner Rose Marie Nijkamp but the two were knocked out in the second round. They lost 7-6, 6-3 against Americans Natalie Black and Piper Charney on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows in New York.

On September 3rd, the teenager added another trophy to her cabinet after she bagged the Girls Doubles title in the J1 Repentigny tournament in Canada.

In July, Okutoyi made history by becoming the first Kenyan to win a Major Open title. She won the Grand Slam following her girls’ double victory at Wimbledon alongside her Dutch partner Rose Marie Nijkamp. The two beat Canadian pair Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko by 2 sets to 1 to clinch the girls' doubles victory.
