All Eyes on You – Ruto Challenges FKF to Deliver

President William Ruto has urged the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to uphold national trust by promoting integrity and inclusivity within Kenyan sports.

Speaking at a high-level stakeholders’ forum on Wednesday, President Ruto called for a unified sports strategy that brings together the government, private investors and sporting institutions to revitalise the country’s athletic development. He expressed confidence in the FKF leadership under President Hussein Mohammed, describing it as a “new team” capable of restoring public faith in football administration.

“I’m putting my name on the line, so you cannot let me down with your team,” he said, signalling both support and accountability.

The President criticised past approaches that treated sports governance as either solely government-run or dominated by FKF, leaving others marginalised. He emphasised the need for an integrated model that involves all stakeholders equally. Central to his vision is the creation of a national sports strategy that transcends institutional boundaries and reflects collective aspirations.

Ruto noted ongoing government investments in sports infrastructure, including stadia, regional facilities and academies to nurture grassroots talent. However, he acknowledged the limitations of public funding and urged the private sector to engage more actively through secure and well-structured partnerships.

“We do not want you to put your money in a space that you are not too sure of,” he said, appealing to corporate investors to help shape the future of Kenyan sports.

Later on Wednesday, the President is scheduled to send off the national team travelling to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
