Nyamira Residents Hold Demos to Shield Chief Justice David Maraga from Attacks by President Uhuru

Two Members of Parliament and more than 10 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nyamira county on Sunday led hundreds of residents in a peaceful demonstration to protest over attacks by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Chief Justice David Maraga following the Supreme Court ruling ruling that nullified August 8th general elections.
Led by MP Ben Momanyi (Borabu), the leaders, who hail from the same county as Maraga said that they cannot sit back and watch the head of state attack one of their own (Maraga) because the ruling he made did not favour him.
The leaders said that both President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto were beneficiaries of a Supreme Court ruling in 2013 General Election and, therefore, should be the last people to criticise the Supreme Court ruling.
Momanyi said that, as representatives of the people of Nyamira and the Kisii community, they were not taking lightly the slur on Maraga as a person in verdict delivered by majority of the judges at the highest court in the land.
West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi asked the the President to stop the attacks and respect the Judiciary and its officers.
The leaders also challenged there colleagues, who were elected on a Jubilee ticket to come out in public and declare their stand over the attacks on Maraga.
Maraga led a six judge bench in declaring the re-election of President Uhuru invalid, null and void, ordering a fresh poll be held within 60 days.
In a press briefing hours after the ruling, President Uhuru said he disagreed with the verdict, but insisted he respects it. What followed was veiled attacks on the Supreme Court and CJ Marage by President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto, with the two vowing to 'deal' with the Judiciary once re-elected.
