Moses Kuria, Johnstone Muthama Charged With Incitement

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama have been charged in court separately with incitement to violence.
The court ordered the duo to sign Sh1 million bond, which they will surrender to the State if they fail to adhere by the terms of the bond.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi l earlier warned Kuria and Muthama against "misbehaving", but the protested and maintained they were still innocent until proven guilty.
Muthama was the first to be charged with making inflammatory statements against President Uhuru Kenyatta, but denied the charge and was released on Sh300,000 bond.
His lawyers James Orengo and John Khaminwa argued before the court that the charge against their Muthama is “ridiculous’ and the Sh1million bond is punishment without trial.
On the other hand, Moses Kuria also denied the charge of making abusive remarks against National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his wife Ida.
The court rejected his request to be granted personal bond, arguing that he had spent a substantial amount of money in the August 8th elections campaigns.
The court freed him on bond of Sh500,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000.
Addressing Jubilee MPs at a parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday, President Uhuru cautioned leaders against making inciting speeches.
“Jubilee is a national party and it represents all Kenyans of every ethnicity, religion and region,” said the President Kenyatta.
“Don’t be drawn into the politics of tribal animosity. We are very firm on this,” the President said.

Unless Uhuru is also arrested for making negative remarks against the judiciary and undermining its authority to make judgements independent of the executive, Muthama and Kuria must be set free unconditionally.
Uhuru, are you going to deny the fact that Toroitich had no business choosing you as the leader of Kenyan people when the wise people of Gatundu rejected you?
Chief Justice Maraga, please reopen the case about the killings after the 1992 and 1997 elections, where we will find Toroitich involved in the senseless murders committed under his watch. Don't forget the Goldenberg financial scandal.

These are symptoms of a bigger societal problem. Society informs the leaders and not the other way round. Culprits will go as far as their audience can allow them and get away with as much. Our social media awash with hate that will make kurias and muthamas look like amateurs. Some social gatherings, barazas, newspaper stands and bus/matatu stops are all breeding grounds for stereo types that culminate to these reckless remarks. I guess the culprits need to face hefty fines that will be channeled to Ethics/cohesion/civics education programs through NCIC, commit them to community work and public apologies.
