Kenyan Woman Found Dead in UK to Be Repatriated on Friday

The body of Edna Mmbali Ombakho will be repatriated to Kenya on Friday, 17 April 2026, following arrangements by her family and the Kenyan diaspora in the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made by the family’s coordination committee after weeks of mourning and community support following the discovery of her body in the River Thames earlier this year. Her father, Dr George Ombakho, will accompany her on the journey to Kenya, a gesture that reflects the family’s effort to remain united during a difficult period.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, 16 April at Cippenham Baptist Church in Slough. The service is intended to honour Edna’s life and provide support to her family, while bringing together members of the diaspora in a shared moment of remembrance.

In the weeks leading up to the repatriation, Kenyans in the UK have organised prayer meetings, fundraising efforts, and pastoral support. These activities have brought together individuals and organisations within the diaspora.

A floral tribute is also planned for Saturday, 18 April at the location where her body was found, marking a final act of respect before her return to Kenya. Support for the Ombakho family has come from across diaspora networks in Europe, Africa, and other regions.

Community organisations, clergy, volunteers, and Kenya’s diplomatic mission have all contributed to the efforts. Investigations into the circumstances of her death are ongoing.

Edna is remembered by friends and community members as a kind and energetic individual who made a positive impact in both her professional and personal life.
