Kenyan TikToker Zack Apella Dies After Cardiac Arrest in the US
Kenyan TikTok personality Zack Apella has died in the United States after suffering a cardiac arrest, despite efforts by his family and doctors to save his life.
His brother, Solo, described the family's final hours with Zack as deeply painful. Speaking while travelling from Philadelphia, he said they spent the evening and much of the night with medical staff exploring every possible treatment, but his condition did not improve.
“Yesterday I was with the doctors all evening and during the night, trying to think what we can do and trying all attempts to get him a cure, but nothing happened,” he said.
Solo also urged family members and friends to remain united and avoid blaming one another during the period of mourning. Solo said Zack had spent part of his final evening interacting with followers during TikTok live sessions. He noted that Zack remained online longer than usual and believed those broadcasts gave him an opportunity to say goodbye to his supporters.
“God helped him to tell all his people goodbye,” he said.
The news of Apella's death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from Kenyans in the United States and at home. Many social media users said they had seen him active on TikTok only days earlier, while others reflected on the suddenness of his death. One mourner wrote, “Tomorrow is never promised.”
Apella's death comes only days after the loss of another Kenyan TikTok personality living abroad. Malon Kiptarus, popularly known as Skullcrusher, drowned at Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, leaving members of the Kenyan community in the Gulf in mourning.
The two deaths have renewed discussion about the challenges faced by young Kenyans living overseas, particularly those who have built large audiences on social media. Families often face the additional burden of dealing with bereavement far from home, while diaspora communities are left to support one another during difficult times.
As tributes continue, Zack Apella is being remembered for the entertainment and positivity he shared with his audience.
