Kenyan Woman in Dubai Seeks Help to Return Home After Sudden Paralysis
A Kenyan domestic worker receiving treatment in the United Arab Emirates has appealed for assistance to return home after a serious medical condition left her unable to walk or work.
Millicent Chepkemboi, from Kemeloi Ward in Aldai Constituency, Nandi County, travelled to Dubai in 2021 to work as a nanny and housemaid. Her circumstances changed significantly earlier this year when she developed a debilitating illness that affected both legs and left her unable to earn a living.
According to Chepkemboi, her health began to deteriorate in January 2025. She was later admitted to Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital in Ajman, where she remains under medical care. Despite undergoing a series of examinations, doctors have not yet determined the exact cause of her condition.
“I developed a condition affecting my two legs, making it difficult for me to stand or walk,” she said.
She added that her employers arranged for her treatment after her condition worsened. The prolonged illness has placed her under considerable financial strain. Unable to work, she has struggled to cover growing medical expenses and immigration-related fines. She is now seeking support to settle these costs and enable her return to Kenya, where she hopes to continue treatment with the support of her family.
“Because of my medical condition, I am unable to work and I am facing financial difficulties. I kindly request assistance with my medical bills and overstay fines so that I can return home and continue my recovery with the support of my family,” she said.
Many lack access to adequate support systems and often depend on assistance from community members, charitable organisations or public appeals during emergencies. Chepkemboi said she remains hopeful that well-wishers, community leaders and relevant authorities will assist her in returning home. She expressed gratitude for any support offered as she continues her treatment in the UAE.
