Kiambu Family Given 45 Days to Repatriate Daughter's Body from Lebanon, Needs KSh 608K

A family in Kianjogu, Ndenderu, is appealing for financial support to repatriate the body of their daughter, Lucy Wanjiru Nduta, who died in a road accident in Lebanon on 17 May 2026.

The 26-year-old travelled to the Middle East on 7 June 2023 in search of employment, hoping to build a better future for herself and her family. According to relatives and friends, she had settled into work before the fatal accident.

"Things were going according to script when she suddenly got into an accident and lost her life," said her close friend, Elsie, who has been helping the family raise funds.

The family now faces the cost of returning Lucy's body to Kenya for burial. They have been asked to raise KSh 608,000 for the repatriation process but have so far collected only KSh 61,750 from relatives and friends, leaving a balance of KSh 545,750.

In an appeal to the public, the family asked well-wishers to help meet the remaining cost. Donations are being sent through M-Pesa to Margaret Mumbi Nduta on 0745397770.

"Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference in helping bring Lucy home," Elsie said, adding that the family was grateful for the support and prayers it had received.

Lucy’s case reflects the difficulties many Kenyan families face when relatives die while working abroad. The cost of repatriating remains is often beyond the reach of families, leaving them dependent on public fundraising and other forms of assistance.

A similar appeal was made recently by the family of Mohamed Ali Abdi from Trans Nzoia, who was confirmed dead in Cambodia after months of uncertainty. His relatives also sought government support to repatriate his remains following conflicting reports surrounding his death and an alleged cremation. Repatriating citizens who die abroad can involve significant financial and administrative hurdles, placing an additional burden on grieving families.
