Miguna Miguna: You Are Persecuting Me the Same Way Moi Did to Matiba

Deported lawyer Miguna Miguna says the government is persecuting him in the same style President Moi's Kanu administration treated the late second liberation hero Kenneth Matiba.

Reacting to a tweet where President Kenyatta eulogized Matiba as a nationalist, the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general said he agreed with the president  on who Matiba was.

He however accused President Uhuru of treating him the same way his tutor (Moi) detained, tortured and maimed the multiparty crusader in the 1990s.

President Kenyatta tweeted: "Ken Matiba epitomised what Kenya is supposed to be. He was committed to hard work and was willing to sacrifice all his property and wealth for the sake of the country. Kenya will miss him but we will never forget him."

Responding to President Uhuru's tweet, Miguna noted: "For the first time, Mr. Despot @UKenyatta you are right: Matiba was among a few Kenyan elite who exploited their public positions to become billionaires. And yes, he was detained without trial, tortured and maimed by your TUTOR, MOI, the same way you have detained & tortured me."

Miguna was arrested in February over his role in the mock swearing in of Opposition leader Raila Odinga on January 30th and was deported to Canada few days later by Kenyan immigration authorities on claims that he was in the country illegally.

He returned to the country on March 26th after the court ordered he be allowed back to Kenya. However, Miguna allegedly refused to comply with clearance procedures at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), forcing the government to return him to Dubai.

He later traveled to Canada after being taken ill at the Dubai International Airport, following what he said was drugging by state officials. He has vowed to fight his way back to his country of birth.
