Recuperating Rosemary Odinga Opens Up on Losing Her Eyesight During Illness

Opposition leader Raila Odinga's daughter Rosemary has for the first time opened up about her illness that got her flown to South Africa for specialized treatment last year.

Speaking when she made her first public appearance since she was taken ill in February, 2017, a frail-looking but cheerful Ms Odinga revealed that she temporarily turned blind during her illness.

“I am still struggling to adapt to the new changes, having lost my sight during my illness. I have had support from everybody around me for which I am very grateful. I will continue to do what my heart most desires – to empower women in our country,” said Rosemary when she attended a function at Raila Odinga Education Centre in Kibra on Tuesday.

Ms Odinga, who attended a charity event to help women in the slum improve their lives, says she is recovering well and will continue pushing for women's empowerment.

“I am getting more confident now on my new life after losing my sight following the surgery. I will continue to do what my heart most desires, to empower women in our country," she adds.

Rosemary joined a Korean charity organization in donating 60 sewing machines for vocational training in Kibra.

“This opportunity will open doors for many women who have no jobs, who are depending on their husbands or well-wishers for support and those who desired to be self-employed,” Rosemary notes.

“I am happy to see you people get these machines which I know after the training will play a big role in addressing the issue of unemployment in our community."

She withdrew from the race for Kibra Parliamentary seat after she was reportedly diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor referred to as Meningioma.

It is commendable that she is empowering women.Ihave yet to see some movement empowering men...
Ithink we should all is should People in power should empower the meek within their midst.
By the way is the assumption
here that men are empowered, and who empowered them?.
We should all work together to uplift each other. Male or female we should empower each other. That does not mean that those in power should relinquish it but use it in anon -oppressive matter. And that goes to both sexes.
Otherwise Iwish her the very best on her way to full recovery. My two cents.

So according to you people who empower women are in away trying to reverse the order of things as God put them?
How about women who are stronger than men in every way? should they some how mellow down...
@guest I take it that your are a Christian, but how come you over look what God says. The good book says Husbands, love your wives...Ephesians 5:25.
Let me ask you this,is God comfortable with men marrying women 40-50 years younger than them?I say this because, love& marriage is purely aproduct of the environment /culture you live in.I am sure stone age men and women somehow had their own version of marriage, but I hardly think the bible had anything to do with it.
In fact anthopoligists tell us that matriarchy was prevalent in Africa Therefore this concept of empowering women in africa is not new...And in the Tchambuli tribe of papua guinea women are the aggressors, and men passive.Women build houses, while me beautify themselves. This till goes on...
My two cents.Your take.

What disease was this?

This happened and Kibra got an MP Mr. Ken Okoth who is proving to be a star when it comes to development in the mold of Peter Kenneth in Gatanga.I have not seen any bills in parliament authored by him but that discussion is for another day.

Mr. Okoth press on and do not be distracted or cowed.
