Uganda Gov't Adds Curvaceous Women to the List of Country's Tourists Attractions

The Ugandan government has announced that it has added curvaceous and sexy women to the list of the country's tourism products.

Uganda's Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda has on Wednesday launched a beauty pageant dubbed ‘Miss Curvy Uganda’ to showcase the “naturally well-endowed women”.

Kiwanda says this group of women could be the country’s new source of income but has been "ignored" over the years.

“We have naturally endowed nice looking women that are amazing to look at. Why don’t we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?” Kiwanda poses.

During the launch of the pageant at the Mestil Hotel poolside, curvy women were lined up with Kiwanda announcing that finalists will be selected in June.

The pageant's organizer, Ann Mungoma says curvaceous women will bring out the endowment of the "real African woman."

“It is an exceptional event that will see young ladies showcase their beautiful curves and intellect,” she says.

Ugandan women aged between 18 and 35 are eligible to participate.

However, an activist identified as Primrose Nyonyozi Murungi has petitioned the government to cancel the pageant on grounds that it amounts to objectifying women.

“It’s 2019 ladies and gentlemen. And a whole board of tourism sat down, discussed and decided to actually pass something like this. Those were men and women with daughters at home. Those were gentlemen married to “curvy” women and dating them. Those were men and women with “curvy” sisters, mothers and friends who sat and actually passed this,” she notes.

I would imagine curvaceous woman has smaller waist and a well endowed behind. What I see is fat from chapati and nyamachoma. Nothing wrong but if we are going to objectify women( which is wrong) let us get it right

Tourists like men too. How about Godfrey Kiwanda puts in a swim suit and parades himself as a source of income for his country.

Some thinking though. Does that mean they have exhausted all other tourists attractions in Uganda? Any way I can't wrap my mind around how women will be used as attractions...if I call them baboons or any other wild animals I would be right.

This cannot be serious? Is that what the whole county's ministry of tourism could come up with? What a shame. If that picture is an example of what tourists should come and see, Iam sorry to say that tourism will go down.
Secondly,is this not a subtle ways of promoting"prostitution".I say this mindful that some people may be quite comfortable with this.

We have all these pageants Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss USA, Miss Kenya, Miss this Miss that! What is the history and rationale behind them big or small? Let UG celebrate its beauty with a pageant for the marginalized as far as beauty of the pageants is concerned. We are taking the battle to them pageants of yesteryear when beauty was not in the eyes of the beholder but minds of the beholden. The novelty of proposal is sound but the rationale and the commentary by this Kiwanda guy is sickening height of male chauvinism and sexism; that defraud the true meaning of beauty. Genuinely, it should be "Go girls go!" but Kiwandas of the world make it look like a market place of "Come baby come!"
