President Uhuru Rewards Election Losers with Plum Parastatal Jobs

Election losers in the 2017 elections have been awarded plum state jobs in the latest appointments made by President Kenyatta.
In what appears to be an effect of the March 9th, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, the beneficiaries are drawn from across the political divide.
In a gazette notice, Kenyatta has appointed former Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye as the chairperson of the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority.
Former Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has been named as the chairperson of the Water Services Regulatory Board.
Former Kitui Central MP Joe Mutambo has been picked to chair the Water Resources Authority while Gonzi Rai, who failed to clinch the Kinango Parliamentary seat, is the new chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service.
Wavinya Ndeti, whose bid to unseat Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was unsuccessful, has been appointed the chairperson of Kenya Water Institute while former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile will serve as a Board member of Tana Athi Waterworks.
Opposition leader Odinga's confidant Ogla Karani has been appointed to chair the Council of the Kenya Cultural Centre while former Taita Taveta Woman Representative Joyce Lay has been appointed as a member of the Water Sector Trust Fund board.
Kenyatta has also appointed legendary Kenyan athlete Paul Tergat as the chair Kenya Academy of Sports Council while his counterpart Kathrine Ndereba will serve as a member.

Question to Kenyan Journalists:
1. When does a person stop becoming an Election loser and become a regular person?
2. Why do Kenya have an 'Leader of Opposition"?
All leaders should be allowed to support and oppose the government.
If Raila Odinga died today, is he still going to be 'Leader of Opposition' from his grave?
People need to be serious. You cannot be Opposing the government while supporting it.
Kenyan Journalists need to learn the difference between supporting and opposing.

No one should be denied an appointment solely because they lost an election. I know many highly capable candidates who lost, and many incompetent who won. Participating in an election should be a positive, and should be encouraged and supported.

If these new appointees don't produce, it would certainly be the continuation of plundering public funds by afew.Is this not some form of favoritism/corruption?Would it not be better to have a law that serves all wananchi in equal measure.
These"losers" are akin to people who have been fired. And I dont understand why they should be handed any job, much less plum ones.

We're setting the wrong precedence here. Job appointments should be based on merit and not political expedience. These people lost the elections because voters believed they were not right for the job. How can you then impose them on the people. If you hand them jobs solely on political Consideration, what about experience, education and practical know-how of the position allotted? And there is the problem of entitlement; these political losers are likely to view this not as a serious appointment but as a gift for trying and failing to capture a political office and as a form of appeasement to a particular community. This is absurd! It's a form of corruption and nepotism and must be stopped. Democracy is a competitive endeavor. It works based on some people winning and others losing-some ideas and policies carrying the day and others tossed on the wayside for later or not at all. Democracy is not handouts to minions, henchmen, friends and family.

The boy in statehouse once again shows his lack of appreciation of the suffering Kenyans have to endure everyday because of his lackl of policies and imagination. These boards serve no useful purpose to the average Kenyan. They are just political patronage and waste of taxes that Kenyans struggle to pay.

Where is the equal opportunity in these appointments, it is one way of entrenching corruption when appointments are based on familiarity and political appeasements rather than qualifications and relevant experiences. It seems that if you want a government appointment in Kenya, try politics first be it MCA, MP, women rep, governor etc. It doesn't matter whether you get 2 votes or 200K votes. What matters is the visibility that one gets once in politics. From that time on you become a hot commodity as a community leader, a politician, a consultant and a candidate for any and every governments recycling appointments. All this while experts are stuck in dead end jobs and new graduates have nowhere to go to. These recycled appointments bring in lethargy and big man syndrome in the workplace. As st Luke puts it "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." To me this is an act of looking back.

Kenya is on the wrong path, however there is nothing to fear. We need look at history. Mzungu was told he will leave Kenya when "Mugumo" tree fell at Thika. He went to protect the tree and by doing so aided in its falling. We may see only bad things happening but maybe Kenya needs them for it to experience real and meaningful change. Let the leadership continue with "Nusu Mkate" through the so called "Handshake". We have cried corruption, nepotism, colonialism even being aided by our own people. Uhuru lost in Gatundu and was appointed by Moi. Raila lost and was pulled to government by Uhuru (Nusu Mkate)being Odinga's son (No achievements ; Gideon Moi is just Moi's son: Musalia Mudavadi is Mudavadi's son. Kalonzo, a product of one, Mulu Mutizia. Ruto, pulled to government by Moi. No wonder if you are a loser, you feel entitled. Now they want to change the constitution to keep this ugly arrangement going. There are a lot of changes going on in the world and Kenya is no exception. It is definitely a big part of that change. The new leadership arrangement may think they have it all planned and figured out but this may only speed up what must happen. May the real God help Kenya!!

This is very bad for the Kambas why? First Kalembe. What did he do and what knowledge does he have to have such a post? Secondly, Wavinya a nests of Governor Mutua. This means a continued fight between the two to show who's got power. The losers are the people of Machakos because the fights between Wavinya and Mutua are going to yield to no water for the ppl of Machakos. This is a political play to hurt the Kambas.
