Popular Prime Place Restaurant in Nairobi Demolished

Nairobi's Prime Place Restaurant near Nyayo Stadium has become the latest structure in the city to be demolished.

The popular eatery has been flattened on Friday morning for allegedly encroaching onto the Kenya Railways land reserve.

A pharmacy, a salon, a boutique, and a cosmetics shop, which are housed in the same structure have also been affected by the demolition exercise.

Speaking to journalists, tenants have lamented that they were not served with notices before the exercise and have incurred huge loses.

However, authorities have disputed the claims, saying that vacation notices were issued late last year.

The structures affected are said to have been built less than 30 meters from the course of the railway line.

Also demolished is a car bazaar reportedly owned by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi.

Unconfirmed reports also indicate that the politician also owns most of the structures that have been flattened during the operation manned by armed police officers.

Julius Wanjau, who heads the county’s multi-agency team carrying out the demolitions, says more illegal structures will be torn down in coming weeks.
