Kiambu Rd to be Upgraded into a Dual Carriageway

Kiambu Rd is set to be upgraded into a dual carriageway as part of the government's plan to ease traffic.

Senate Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman and Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi says designs for the road are complete.

“We hope President Uhuru Kenyatta will get funds so that the expansion is completed before the end of his term,” says Wamatangi.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued notices to property owners along the 10-kilometer stretch to remove their structures from the road reserve.

The busy road will be expanded from Muthaiga to Githunguri and will connect to the Ruiru-Uplands and Githunguri-Kimende roads.

The design for the road incorporates the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system to be rolled out in Nairobi this year.

Kiambu Rd users have endured heavy traffic jams for long as a result of its narrowness, increasing vehicles, and poor design.

Phew! long long over due. Kiambu town and its sleepy villages will wake up from its stupor to rise like a phenix. The narrow road with its jams has for the longest delayed the opening up for much needed Nairobi/Kiambu metropolis

Nyandarua residents too pay tax. It cannot be all about Kiambu. Most of the Kenya's freedom fighters came from Nyandarua while most of the homeguards(Loyalists) came from Kiambu yet the difference in development is unimaginable with Nyandarua so marginalized that it is only second to Turkana in terms of marginalization(road potholes everywhere, underfunded or no schools, etc.) while Kiambu(home of Njenga Karume, Githunguri of Lillian Towers, Mbiyo Koinange, Wanugu, Wacucu, Wakinyonga and ninty five percent of Kenyan billionires) looks like Switzerland with roads tarmacked all the way to the door steps of their toilets
