Kenyan Diaspora in the UK Backs Catherine Njenga in Aldershot Local Elections

Kenyan community leaders in the United Kingdom have stepped up political engagement ahead of local elections in Aldershot, backing Labour Party candidate Catherine Njenga through organised canvassing efforts.

Over the weekend, members of the Kenya Surrey & Borders Community (KSBC) joined Councillor Njore Kimani of Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire, in a door-to-door campaign across the Manor Park area. Volunteers distributed campaign materials and spoke with residents about local concerns affecting the ward.

Organisers said the effort aims to support Njenga’s candidacy while promoting stronger representation in local government. They emphasised the importance of ensuring that a wide range of community voices is included in decision-making processes.

The campaign drew support from faith leaders, community organisers and figures including KSBC Interim Chairman MK Langat and Rev. Queen Esther. Councillor Kimani praised the volunteers’ commitment, noting that diaspora communities are increasingly aware of how local government decisions affect daily life.

He highlighted issues such as housing, education, public services and safety, and said participation in democratic processes is essential for communities seeking to address these concerns. Campaign coordinators said preparations are entering a critical phase, with volunteers already committing to assist on polling day.

Recruitment is ongoing to expand support in voter outreach, transport coordination and election-day operations. Organisers have invited additional volunteers to join the effort.
