Kenyan-Born Man Martin Mburu Voted Teacher of the Year in South Carolina's Clarendon School District 1

Martin Mburu, a Kenyan immigrant in the United States, has been voted the 2019 district teacher of the year in Clarendon School District 1, South Carolina.

Mburu, who relocated to the US a decade ago, was named teacher of the year for his outstanding use of technology in the classroom and motivating his students.

He employs green screen technology, animation, flipped classroom, 3D technology, podcasting, computer programming, virtual reality, and music videos to build a relationship with his students.

Mburu will be battling it out for the state of South Carolina's teacher of the year with 60,000 other applicants at the end of the school year. 

He studied special education at the Kenya Technical Training College, Egerton University as well as Kenyatta University.
