Kenyan Officials Swing into Action after Public Outcry over Giraffe with Huge Eye Tumor

Officers from Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) swung into action following a public outcry occasioned by viral photos of a weeping giraffe with a huge eye tumor surrounded by a swarm of buzzing flies.

The photos of the Rothschild giraffe, taken in Lake Nakuru National Park, went viral online on Thursday, prompting Kenyans and other internet users from across the globe to call for its treatment.

On Friday, KWS announced the ailing giraffe was traced and shared photos and videos of veterinary doctors treating the animal.

“The Rothschild giraffe has been confirmed to have a bone tumor. While the animal is able to move, feed and water, excising the tumor proved difficult due to the extent of the growth with potentially serious complications,” KWS said in a statement.

KWS further said a palliative treatment of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs was administered on the animal.

“The giraffe will be closely monitored. We appreciate the public concern for the welfare of the giraffe.”

“While the animal is able to move, feed and water, excising the tumor proved difficult due to the extent of the growth with potentially serious complications,” KWS added.

The ailing animal is one out of the existing 609 endangered giraffes of Rothschild species in the country.

While it's a good gesture by wildlife guys to trace & take care of the poor animal why can't we show the same concern to the poor who suffer from cancer in our country?

Where are those Jungus who claim to have discovered the black Panther or Lake Victory to say they discovered this Giraffe?
