Uasin Gishu Mother Pleads for Help to Bring Back Son Fighting in Russia
A family in Kipkenyo, Uasin Gishu County, is seeking government assistance after their son, Andrew Limo Kiprono, went missing and has not been in contact for six months while believed to be in Russia.
Relatives say Kiprono left Kenya last year, stating he was travelling for work. Communication stopped soon after. Images later circulated among acquaintances showing him in military clothing alongside armed men, raising concern about his possible involvement in military activity.
His mother, Salome Mibei, has appealed to authorities for help in determining his whereabouts. She said she wants to know whether her son is alive or dead and hopes the government can assist in bringing him home.
Kiprono’s grandmother, Lucia Cherusi, described the emotional strain caused by the uncertainty. She urged officials to intervene, saying the family has been left without clear information and has been forced to search for answers on their own.
His sister, Immaculate Chepkemei, has tried to trace him through contacts abroad. She said a soldier who knew Kiprono confirmed he had been deployed to a frontline area without network coverage. The soldier was later hospitalised and could not provide further details.
Members of the local community have also called for action. Wilson Kirwa urged President William Ruto to address concerns about Kenyan nationals reportedly joining military operations in Russia. He noted that other families have reported similar cases of relatives travelling abroad and losing contact.
The family continues to hold prayer gatherings with support from neighbours and friends as they wait for information. A similar case was recently reported in Kiambu, where another family said their son went missing after being recruited into the Russian army.
