Kenyan Mother Reunites With Son in US After 13-Year Separation
A Kenyan woman living in the United States has reunited with her son after 13 years apart, marking what she described as the answer to years of prayer and perseverance.
Christine Wisitsa announced the reunion on 22 June 2026, saying she had finally been reunited with her son, Myles, after more than a decade of separation.
Wisitsa, a widow, said the separation began when Myles was three years old during a difficult period in her life that included an abusive marriage.
She said the experience left her physically injured and emotionally traumatised, and that her son was taken from her during that time. For 13 years, she said, she lived with the pain of being separated from her child.
According to Wisitsa, she spent years praying and holding on to the hope that they would one day be reunited. The reunion became possible when Myles was able to leave a refugee country and travel to the United States. He was welcomed by his mother, his sibling and his stepfather, Fred Mayunga.
Reflecting on the moment, Wisitsa compared her son's journey to the biblical crossing of the Red Sea. In a message shared on social media, she described the reunion as a result of divine intervention and faith.
“God Himself commanded the sea to open, and it parted without sending Moses. My son Myles just passed through that sea from a refugee country, and now the sea is closed,” she wrote.
Many people responded to her testimony online, with messages recognising her resilience and determination throughout the years of separation. As she welcomed her son home, Wisitsa sang songs of praise and expressed gratitude for what she viewed as a miraculous reunion.
