Impeachment Motion Against Nairobi Governor Sonko to be Tabled Next Week

An impeachment motion against embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is set to be tabled before the county assembly, Minority Whip Peter Imwatok has said.
Speaking on Monday, Imwatok indicated that the ouster motion will be first on the order of business once the county assembly reconvenes from recess on February 11th, 2020. He added that the motion has already received the requisite signatures from Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
“It is very clear to all Kenyans that Nairobi has a problem which ought to be sorted out in the Kiambu style. And there is no shortcut,” said Imwatok.
“We are initiating the process of impeachment. We have to do a motion before the assembly which will be supported by 82 members and we already have those numbers.”
Imwatok spoke days after Nominated MP Maina Kamanda urged Nairobi MCAs to impeach Sonko, who is facing corruption charges over the alleged irregular award of tenders amounting to Sh357 million.
“We are telling Nairobi MCAs to take note of what their Kiambu counterparts have done. Let them (Nairobi MCAs) remove that thief in office and send him home or Shimo la Tewa,” said Kamanda.
In December 2019, the court barred Sonko from accessing his office until the graft case against him is heard and determined.
If successful, Sonko will become the second Governor after Kiambu’s Ferdinand Waititu to be removed from office through impeachment. Last week, the Senate upheld the December 2019 decision by Kiambu MCAs to impeach Governor Waititu over gross misconduct and abuse of office, among other allegations.

They are coming after you governor. It's fair though because you reap what you sow, and you have no business doing a man's job. You're a drug pushing boy and a criminal who should be rotting in jail.
