Kenya Pipeline Company Allays Fears of Fuel Shortage in the Country

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has allayed fears of fuel shortage amid reports of a lack of the commodity in some parts of the country over the past few days.

The State-owned fuel supplier, in a statement on Saturday, stated that there is enough fuel stock in its storage to meet the demand.

As at Saturday noon, KPC said, the stock position in all its facilities countrywide stood at over 69 million litres of super petrol, more than 94 million litres of diesel, over 13 million litres of kerosene and at least 23 million litres of jet fuel available.

“Kenya Pipeline Company would like to confirm that there are ample stocks of petroleum products in our system throughout the country to meet demand,” KPC Managing Director Macharia Irungu said in a statement sent to newsrooms.

“Our global stock holding is adequate to serve the region, with more ships in Mombasa queued for discharge,” he added.

Macharia further assured Kenyans that KPC continues to fulfil its mandate of consistently delivering safe and quality petroleum products to all its customers in Kenya and the regional markets.

Motorists in parts of Nairobi, North Rift, Nyanza, Central and Western regions complained of a fuel shortage, with long queues witnessed in several gas stations.

Although KPC did not explain the cause of the fuel crisis witnessed in many parts of the country, distributors attributed the shortage to a delay in the disbursement of Sh13 billion subsidy by the government. The subsidy is usually paid to oil marketers to cushion Kenyans against higher costs of fuel.
