National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya Accepts Defeat in Kipiriri MP Race

National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya has accepted defeat in the Kipipiri parliamentary race.

Kimunya, who was defending his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket, on Wednesday thanked his constituents for according him the opportunity to serve as their MP for 15 years.

"Yesterday’s election was historic for Mt Kenya Region, including Kipipiri, and will hopefully offer a moment of reflection. The people made their decision, which was different from our expectations,” Kimunya wrote on his Facebook page.

“In a democracy, the will of the people prevails, and therefore I and #TeamKimunya, will respect their choices. We extend our congratulations to the winners... We did our best for Kipipiri, we are proud of our achievements, and that history will never be erased. The people have however made their choice, and we respect it. We wish them well."

Provisional results indicate Wanjiku Muhia of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is poised to clinch the Kipipiri MP seat after taking a dominant lead.
