Linda Mwananchi Faction Steps Up Preparations for 2027 Elections

The Linda Mwananchi faction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is stepping up preparations for the 2027 elections.

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna leads the group, which is emphasising grassroots engagement and regional policy priorities. At a rally at Tononoka grounds in Mombasa, Sifuna criticised current land reforms, claiming they favour wealthy absentee landlords over ordinary citizens. He called for redistribution of land titles to benefit local youth, framing the issue as a matter of historical justice.

The faction has established a central coordination hub to oversee planning, resource mobilisation, and messaging. The secretariat will be led by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who organised the Tononoka rally and now heads efforts to build a structured apparatus to maintain the movement’s momentum. The centre is described as a think tank that reports directly to the faction’s leadership to ensure consistent policy and political messaging.

Rallies in Kitengela, Kakamega, Narok, and Mombasa have attracted large crowds, which leaders interpret as evidence of growing public support. Senator Osotsi compared this enthusiasm to the wave that propelled the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) to victory in 2002, noting that the movement is refining its communication and outreach with each event.

Other leaders have highlighted local empowerment initiatives. Suba South MP Caroli Omondi pledged to revoke illegal mining licences on the Coast, insisting that natural resources should benefit local communities rather than external actors.
