Kenyan Man Convicted of a Conspiracy to Bomb KICC

A Kenyan man has been found guilty of a conspiracy to bomb the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in January 2019.

Victor Odede Bwire was convicted of the offense by a Nairobi court on Monday and is set to be sentenced on February 8th.

Bwire was charged that jointly with others, he conspired to commit an act of terror at KICC. He faced a separate count of collecting information to aid a terror act.

This was after a forensic analysis of phones in his possession showed that he had sent information on KICC's security arrangement to contacts in Somalia.

The charge sheet stated that on the said date in Nairobi’s Umoja estate, Bwire collected and transmitted, information on security arrangement of the KICC using his phone to the holder of a Facebook account Mohamed Yare Abdalla.

The court heard that the information was intended for use in the commission of a terror act.

Bwire pleaded not guilty to all the charges before Principal Magistrate Lillian Arika.

I remember having read about this Bwire man sometime back. He had disappeared and no one knew where he might have gone to but his mother unexpectedly ran into him at Nyayo Stadium during some holiday commemoration. I wonder what he was planning to do at the stadium.
