Raila Accuses Gachagua of Planning Violence Against Peaceful Protesters During Azimio Demos

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga claims Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is planning to cause mayhem during their protests in Nairobi on Monday.

In a statement on Sunday, Odinga alleged that Gachagua has set up an armory and command centres in two different locations in the city to realize his “evil and bloody plan against otherwise peaceful protesters.”

"He has set up an armoury and command centres in two different locations at a house next to the Bomas of Kenya that belongs to a former Cabinet Secretary and another on Hillcrest Drive, Nairobi, belonging to a serving Cabinet Secretary," reads the statement.

The opposition leader claimed the two locations are being stocked with all manners of weapons, ranging from guns, pangas, and machetes.

The weapons, he said, are being ferried to the designated locations aboard a vehicle camouflaged as a St. Mary’s ambulance.

"The same crude weapons and forces’ uniforms are being dispatched to upcountry locations in western and Nyanza, where youths have been booked in hotels with instructions to target specific Azimio leaders," he added.

Odinga also alleged that a number of rebel Azimio MPs from these regions have been deployed in “support of this dirty mission especially in western Kenya and Nyanza.”

He also claimed that a fleet of public service vehicles has been deployed to ferry youths to several regions within Nairobi and Kiambu to target Azimio leaders who will be part of the protests.

"Their mission is to target Azimio leaders in Nairobi including Hon. Babu Owini, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, and Hon. Edwin Sifuna and Hon. Jeremiah Kioni, among others," he added.

Odinga had earlier stated that their anti-government demonstrations slated for Monday would continue as planned despite the police declaring them illegal.

“I am calling on Kenyans to turn out in large numbers for the peaceful demonstrations. Do not fear the police or the teargas.” “We don’t want to bring anarchy to our country, but we are fighting for our rights and we have a right to tell Kenyans the truth, The Bible says say the truth and the truth shall set you free,” he said.
