Former MP Elizabeth Ongoro Castigates ODM as She Explains Defection to UDA

Former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro has ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by Raila Odinga for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The move was announced by UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala at a party event on Monday, July 24, where he welcomed Ongoro and cited her extensive political experience as a former lawmaker. Malala challenged her to help the UDA address the ongoing protests in Nairobi. Ongoro had been a key player in the ODM party but her relationship with the outfit soured in 2017 when she was denied a direct ticket to contest for the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat.

"We must say that we are pleased to welcome into the UDA Party former Senator Elizabeth Ongoro. You have publicly defected from ODM Party to join the ruling party. As you well know, Senator Ongoro brings to the party a wealth of experience gained over at least a decade. A period when she served as the MP for Kasarani and also a Nominated Senator," stated the Secretary-General.

In explaining her decision to join the UDA, Ongoro disputed the opposition's tendency to use young children as political pawns while disregarding their safety during demonstrations. Ongoro emphasized that she has made the decision without being coerced or promised anything in return. She also noted that the opposition has been using the same political tactics for too long and it's time for a change.

The politician alleged that the opposition has resolved to seize power by all means without regard to the lives of innocent youths being lost on the streets during demonstrations. Despite her defection, Ongoro stated that she has no animosity towards Raila Odinga whom she has supported since 2007.

"We can't allow our vulnerable children to be pushed to the frontline as sacrificial lambs for a few chosen ones, I refuse," Ongoro said.

Political prostitution in Kenya is incurable disease. Every time we read the decision made by out politicians it reminds us of the primary school days. I will not give you my sweet because you did not share your sugarcane with me. Grow up mama and show the young generation how to behave. The political senator seat was not a inheritance. The people made a choose and it was time for you to move on.
