Homeless Man Declines Generous Offer of Cash and House

In a heartwarming yet challenging encounter on Thika Road, activist Derrick Mbugua attempted to extend assistance to a homeless man named Mutoko.

Illuminating the space with their phones, Mbugua and his friends initiated a conversation with Mutoko, who resides in a makeshift shelter of garbage bags within a tunnel in Pangani. Despite their genuine efforts, Mutoko appeared hesitant, perhaps due to the unfamiliar surroundings and bright lights. Concerned about safety, Mbugua proposed relocating to a safer area for the discussion. However, Mutoko resisted the suggestion.

Undeterred by the challenges, Mbugua continued his efforts to improve Mutoko's living conditions. To his surprise, Mutoko declined every offer, including a generous cash gift and the offer of a house. Reflecting on the encounter, Mbugua emphasizes the inherent difficulties in connecting with individuals facing homelessness.
