Kenyan President William Ruto has implored the diaspora community to actively contribute to the nation's economic development.
During a Diaspora Tech Investment Expo and Engagement held at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, Georgia, the President emphasized the pivotal role the diaspora can play in propelling Kenya to greater heights. President Ruto, who is currently in the United States for a state visit at the invitation of his American counterpart President Joe Biden, reiterates the advanced stage of Kenya's economic transformation. He highlights the pull effect of investment opportunities across various sectors, urging the diaspora to seize these prospects and join forces in driving the nation's progress.
Recognizing the significance of the diaspora's contributions, the President pledges to establish a dedicated diaspora board tasked with facilitating and safeguarding investments made by Kenyans living abroad. This initiative aims to provide a structured framework for channelling resources and expertise back into the nation. Accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto, cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and high-ranking government officials, President Ruto today addressed the gathered Kenyans, emphasizing the vital role they can play as catalysts for economic development. The diaspora registration and mapping efforts currently underway seek to harness the skills and expertise of Kenyans abroad, enabling their productive employment and increased earnings to fuel the country's growth.
During his visit to Atlanta, President Ruto also underscored the pressing need for a fair financial system that provides developing countries with concessional development financing. Such resources, he noted, can be channelled towards strengthening economies, combating the effects of climate change, and promoting free market principles. President Ruto is scheduled to meet with US Congressmen on Wednesday to delve into the profound impact of poverty and debt on democracy in Africa. This dialogue aims to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by developing nations and explore collaborative solutions.

Please start by not harassing Kenyans when they come back home to visit.
I did not make it to the Cobb Galleria but I did listen to the president’s entire speech and Q&A!
Yes, the president was exhausted and starving as he kept on complaining, and that’s fully understandable, I give him kudos for that … BUT
I think he’s being ill advised by his advisors on the diaspora matters and needs!
Mostly the conversation was a one way street, I.e., how can “they” milk more cash from the diaspora, instead of a two way street!
Never once addressed the needs of the diaspora, their problems, or their inputs as to how to improve governance back in Kenya, never once addressed corruption which is the biggest enemy to Kenya, way ahead of inept leaders!
Never once addressed the land he promised the diaspora to build their homes in Kenya; the diaspora has been historically robbed their hard earned cash by corrupt family members and the so called developers (I am a witness)! And it’s still ongoing, even with some of the delegation that came over at Cobb Galleria, ask me who those thieves are and I will with confidentiality show you the thieves!!!
Again, the President still has the Kenyan mentality! He addressed “us” as living in a country that is not “ours”! Oh, he is so misguided! A lot of us left Kenya due to corruption, impunity and everything that comes with it! USA gave us opportunities, opportunities that we could never get in the country we were born in, and after a long time of suffering, perseverance and hard work, we eventually succeeded! Build our lives and family in the USA, we became US citizens, our children are Americans, and a lot of us have lived in US for much longer than we lived in Kenya!!!
Therefore, the shenanigans of that this isn’t our country must end!!! We generally don’t expect our children to go live in Kenya!!! And that old mentality of transporting corpses back to Kenya is dying with the older generation, i.e., we live here and will be buried here along with our families!!!
We would very much love to invest in the motherland though if conditions were right and stipulated ways to make it easier for the diaspora to do so without being conned!!!
With all the thieves and rampant corruption, it makes it harder not to invest in the US and opt for Kenya!
One example, in US, your cash in the bank is guaranteed upto at least $250,000 per depositor, per FDIC-insured bank, per ownership category! In comparison, in Kenya, KDIC only entitle you $3,500 should a bank fail!!! How on earth would I want to shift my cash from a bank in US to a Kenyan bank??? Insane
More …
Forget investing in Kenya. There is too much untamed corruption, dishonesty and theft in every corner you turn your face. I will continue to invest where I live because it is hustle free and much closer to manage my investment. Let Kenyans in Kenya figure out how to fix their own problems. It is almost impossible to invest in Kenya!
That is me right there. I do not want to invest in a country of thieves, killers, cheaters, fake millionaires. America is my country now and I will invest here where I'm assured of returns not losses
Kenya is no longer the best place to invest. Property in the US is now much cheaper than buying anything in Kenya. And, by the time you transact with the dollar in Kenya, every rogue politician (Ruto included) is taking his cut from your money. The level of security is in terrible shape in Kenya. Infrastructure that Ruto keeps talking about is on its knees or near dead. Anyone would be even better off buying land in Costa Rica where beach property cost way less than Kenya. Better yet, you can invest in the US equities with high divindend and honest management teams. Hello, hello, hello Kenyans in the diaspora!!!! Wake up! You don’t have to keep throwing good money over bad money in Kenya simply because you are a Kenyan…
Whether you like it or not one day u will come home to your homeland (roots)to retire .Waswahili says Mbio za sakafuni huishia ukingoni.Take advantage of investing at home compared to countries like US and others they offer 4.5 to 5 percent rates compared to kenya 15-17 percent rates.Tafakari
Yeah there are a gazillion places one can retire in and Kenya right now is not on top of my list. I'm a world citizen hata Uganda or Ghana or SA is a place to retire. Kenya as a place to retire for me is overrated.!
The best president Kenya and Africa has ever had. Hasn't met expectations yet and I don't like that's he's not discerning the zungus right. Report card at the end of term. All the best Mr president!!
